 "Swallowing the Sun"

"Swallowing the Sun" is a public sound piece for a large ensemble, utilizing 100+ musicians from the greater Boston community, with additional performance content by Joanne Rice and Matt Samolis, which will be performed on Monday evening August 8, 2011 at the Church of the Advent on Beacon Hill in Boston.  This date falls between the anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki which happened on August 6 & 9, 1945 respectively. The performance will commemorate the lives of those killed in the blasts {estimates range between 150,000- 250,000}. Each musician will be instructed to play approximately 50-60 notes per minute for one hour.  Each note is one life lost.

All interested musicians and singers are invited to perform in the piece. Any level musician is welcome. There will be no formal rehearsal, but a brief talk through rehearsal will be held one half hour before the performance. Due to the nature of the space and the piece, only acoustic instruments can be used.  If you would like to participate please email Tom Plsek at tplsek@berklee.edu to let him know.  Further instructions and actual performance times will be sent to those who reply.
