Japan:Teaching Peace,Connecting People

Primary Source and the Children's Museum are offering an one-day workshop seminar for participants to build a foundation of information topics about peace. In particular, we will explore the topics teaching about Japan, peace building, and friendship through experts’ presentations, hands-on activities, music activity, and panel discussion. We welcome teachers in K-12 classrooms as well as those in various learning environments such as librarians, teacher students, community leaders, musicians/artists, educators and cultural specialists in pre-schools, after-schools, museums, etc.

The workshop highlights including

•         Discussion about “What is Peace Education?” with Lani Gerson, Library Teacher, Newton Public Schools

•         Academic lecture “Voices from Japan: Learning and Teaching about Peace” by Anne Prescott, Director, Five College Center for East Asian Studies

•         Hands-on activities

•         Learning resources:  Miss Kyoto, Kyo no Machiya the Japanese House exhibit, & Bottom Monster’s Friends – The art project from Tohoku, Japan.

•         Special Guest Appearance “The Women of the World” - Peace through the Power of Music - Circle Singing: Building Inclusiveness through Music 

•         Panel Discussions: Peace & Friendship through International Exchange Projects

 The ticket fee ($21.99) includes Obento lunch (Maku-no-uchi style boxed lunch) and light breakfast!
