YanagiyaSankyo was born in 1948. He became an apprentice to YanagiyaKosan VI in 1967 and received a shin'uchi rank in 1981. He is a veteran rakugoperformer who can portray the subtle emotions of a character during a performance. He is a board member of the Association of RakugoPerformers.


Yanagiya Kyonosuke was born in 1971 and became an apprentice to Sankyo in 1993.  He received a shin’uchi rank in 2007.


Rakugo is a 400-year-old tradition of storytelling in Japan. A minimalistic performance art, Rakugofeatures a lone storyteller dressed in kimono, kneeling on a cushion, who, using only a fan and a hand towel for props, entertains the audience with a comic prelude followed by a traditional story.
